BASIC CARDIAC LIFE SUPPORT (BCLS) COURSE

Introduction
In Singapore, the out-of-hospital sudden cardiac arrest survival rate is around 11%. Meanwhile, cities such as Gothenburg (Sweden) and Seattle (USA) have recorded exceptional survival rates of more than 40%.

Singapore, being a small nation state with dense population excellent healthcare and infrastructure, can do much better in improving our survival rates. Locally, Heart Attack is a major cause of Sudden Cardiac Arrest resulting in abnormal heart rhythms, causing the heart to cease pumping blood effectively which results in victims collapsing and quickly losing consciousness, often without warning.

The ability to perform Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) is crucial, and any person trained in CPR will be able to apply the cardiac chain of survival, thereby significantly increasing the victim’s chance of survival.
